About Us

SISTAHFRIENDS is a collective of sistahs of color dedicated to the mission and vision of promoting sustained emotional, personal, psychological, and mental health and physical wellness in the lives of women of color.  We are licensed healthcare professionals committed to reducing stress, anxiety, and depression associated with everyday living, chronic health conditions, care-giving responsibilities, grief and loss, and personal crisis.  We are a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of women of color.

We provide professional culturally competent counseling and therapeutic services to women of color who experience feelings of sadness, hopelessness, worthlessness, anxiety, stress, and grief and loss.  We specialize in serving women who have been diagnosed with chronic, debilitating, or terminal illnesses and women who have experienced trauma or severe stress and anxiety associated with everyday living.  Our clients include women, women’s organizations, women’s groups, and women’s professional, spiritual, and personal networks.  We provide supportive services to women caregivers, leaders, politicians, business professionals, veterans, executives, students, artists, teachers, healthcare and social service providers, and other individuals and groups.  We facilitate support groups, workshops, seminars, community dialogues, and lectures on improving the quality of life for women of color.

Is SISTAHFRIENDS only for women of color? No, SISTAHFRIENDS serves all women but we are specifically outreaching to Black Women.  Why, because although Black Women only represent approximately 7% of the American population, they have the highest clinical risks factors than almost any other ethnic group and their mortality rates are higher than any other racial or ethnic group for nearly every major cause of death including heart disease, lung cancer, cerebrovascular disease, breast cancer, AIDS, and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases.  Additionally, Black Women’s emotional and psychological health are disproportionately impacted by the over-represented percentage of their Black male loved ones who are either incarcerated or involved in the criminal justice system, unemployed, homeless, or experiencing chronic chemical dependency.  Also, the impact of youth, domestic, and community violence in urban communities disproportionately affects Black Women often resulting in perpetual stress and anxiety, depression, unresolved trauma, and grief and loss.  Lastly, due to the culture of non-disclosure in Black families, Black Women are least likely to neither seek emotional supportive services nor receive them and as such is often un-served, inappropriately served, or under-served

SISTAHFRIENDS is located at 3731 Stocker Street, Suite #210, Los Angeles, CA 90008.  Please feel free to contact us at (323) 296-0310.
